Coaching and Mentoring: Working alongside teachers to demonstrate effective strategies (e.g., differentiation, behaviour management).
Professional Development: Providing targeted training and expert advice on specific needs (e.g., dyslexia, anxiety).
Consulting on Policy: Advising leadership on creating inclusive school policies and systems.
Program Implementation: Assisting with the rollout of large-scale initiatives. RTLB also work with Kahui Ako to support communities of learning.
Supporting Kura: Each School has an individual RTLB liaison or key worker to support them.
Ecological Assessment: Observing the student and the learning environment to identify barriers.
Collaborative Planning: Supporting the development of action plans (IEPs) with whānau, teachers, and other specialists.
Intervention Strategy: Recommending and monitoring the use of specific, evidence-based interventions for the teacher to carry out. This is usually implemented by the classroom teacher or the school's learning support staff, guided by the RTLB.
Liaison with Agencies: Acting as a bridge between the school and other external support agencies (like the Ministry of Education Learning Support staff, health services, or Oranga Tamariki) to ensure a holistic plan is in place if required.
In short, the RTLB acts as a collaborative consultant, equipping schools with the knowledge and tools to sustain inclusive education for all students.
